Expert checklist: How to sell segway tours successfully online

The segway tour business has been booming over the last few years. It is common to find segway tours in small towns or rural areas, not just in big cities, providing an interesting experience for travellers and locals alike.

In the cities, a segway tour typically takes guests around the city according to some sort of theme, for example, a segway tour around the city focused on local wineries. In rural areas, it is primarily used for exploring the great outdoors. Here, the segways are usually equipped with special tyres to bring guests to untouched and often remote natural gems.

Regardless of where you operate and what tours you provide, if you run a segway tour business, this article is for you. Here are 10 things to do to help you get more bookings online.

1. Show your availability online

Nothing is more important than allowing your customers to make a booking with you at any time, day or night. Make the booking process a delight by sharing your updated availability with them on your website. As a segway tour provider, you probably spend most of your time outside with your customers. But while you're out, you will still have potential customers interested in sending an enquiry, booking an appointment or buying a tour voucher.

Don't lose out on these customers. Use a professional online booking system like TrekkSoft that displays your live inventory on your website, allowing your customers to find a tour that suits their schedule, book and pay for it at any time.

2. Rent your segways

By renting  your segways, you are able to reach a larger market to include corporates interested in team building activities or a group of friends who just want to have fun. This could be an alternative income stream for your company.

To ensure that renting your equipment does not turn into an administrative nightmare, it would be useful to have a system that gives you an overview of the availability of all your segways. With an online management software like Trekksoft, the allocation of resources is automatically taken care of.

When a segway tour is booked, the number of segways used for that tour is recognised by the system and it automatically adjusts the pool of available resources at any given time, eliminating the issue overbooking.

3. Consider the whole customer journey

To give your customers an unforgettable customer experience, consider the whole customer journey. It starts from the search for a segway tour, to the discovery of a beautiful website, to strong content and descriptions of your tours that include text, images and videos, through to a simple booking process, and then finally, the experience of the tour itself.

All these steps influence your customers' journey and determines if he or she will recommend you to others after they've finished their tour with you. Consider the different parts of the journey and how you can improve it. After the tour, include your customers in a newsletter and keep them updated about your latest promotions and events. Turn your existing customers into repeat visitors by providing them with a discount code in the newsletter.

4. Offer group tours

Most segway tours are held in groups. Leverage on this and promote your tours to larger groups or as company events. Consider kickstarting a Google AdWords campaign or simply be more conscious about using the right SEO terms in the content you publish online.

Promote group tours separately on your website, for example in a separate page, and make sure you clearly display the group price as well as the minimum number of participants. Use an intelligent online booking solution that allows you to easily display prices for individuals as well as for groups of people.

5. Sell gift vouchers for your segway tours

Many customers are looking for a suitable gift for friends and family - so why not sell gift vouchers for your segway tours? From September onwards, companies usually kickstart their Christmas marketing efforts. Customers will also be on the lookout for the perfect Christmas gift. Give customers the option of giving the gift of a segway tour to their friends and family.

6. Always keep your agents up-to-date

Keep all your agents, partners and resellers up-to-date with a booking and management system that allows them to view your live inventory. Help them do their jobs better by equipping them with a Point-Of-Sales Desk so that tourist offices, hotels and other partners can easily book for guests on-site - with insight of all your current availabilities.

7. Streamline your management processes

Streamline your bookings and back-end management and reduce administrative work, allowing you to focus on what you enjoy most - your segway tours. A good management software can help you manage all your offers, keep you and your team up-to-date, on all of smart devices.

TrekkSoft allows you to easily view the number of places booked on your tours, or the number of participants who have already signed up, and how many more spots you have left. With the right management system, your business is able to run seamlessly and without much paperwork.

8. Sell your tours on other distribution channels

Use multiple distribution channels to sell your segway tours. Always be on the look out for new business partners who can help you reach a larger market, such as hotels, tourist offices and even other tour and activity business who are regularly in close contact with your target market.

With the TrekkSoft Partner Network, it is possible to have add on business partners to your network and have them selling your segway tours via their websites. Some booking solutions also provide you the option of promoting your products on well-known OTAs like Viator and Musement.

With an online booking solution like ours, you are always up-to-date and can synchronize your booking calendar with your own favourite calendar like iCal, Google Calendar or Outlook.

10. Market your tours online

Make use of Search Engine Optimisation (or SEO) marketing to build your web presence. Use high-quality images and videos that show off your tours or activities to attract your target audience. Research on which online platform is best to help you reach your target group so that you know where to spend most of your time promoting your segway tours. Make use of various social media channels like Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to build your brand online.

My advice would be to start planning your marketing strategy for the upcoming Christmas season that begins in September. The earlier you start, the less you'll have to worry about missing out on a booking.
