2016 has begun and a lot has already happened in the global tourism industry. With so much going on, it can be difficult to stay updated with the latest news and trends relevant to tour and activity companies.

Here's our pick of the six best websites for staying up to date with all that goes on in tourism and travel. Get your online bookmarking tool ready!

 

1. Skift

Skift is our go-to source for all travel news. They also produce reports on various travel trends or on specific categories within the travel industry that are incredibly useful if you’d like to get a bird’s eye view on your region or category. 

Skift also released a podcast last year, with 9 episodes so far. They’ve interviewed industry leaders about the future of the travel industry. It offers great insight and I highly recommend that you give it a listen.

  

2. Tnooz

Tnooz reports on the intersection between technology and travel, including the tour and activities sector. Apart from sharing interesting insights from the tech industry and how it translates to travel, they also write about distribution channels and marketing in the travel industry, as well as featuring the latest startups.

3. Travel Daily News

This site was designed for busy people previewing the headlines of articles published for the week, and they allow readers to quickly scan through all the information and pick out what is most relevant. It covers all aspects of the travel industry, including mergers and acquisitions, travel trend highlights, and even reviews of travel destinations.

4. Travel and Tour World

Similar to Travel Daily News, Travel and Tour World brings all related tourism news articles to one site. Articles are categorised by region, which comes in handy if you’d like to know how your own region is doing.

They also have an interview section where they speak to prominent industry leaders and gain expert insight. It’s a great read if you have a bit more time to spare.

5. Tour and activity groups and pages on social media

If your company is a scuba diving company, for example, get plugged into the different scuba diving groups on Facebook and LinkedIn, or follow famous divers on Twitter. It is a great way to get information quickly, although it would be advised to verify and cross check it against other sources.

These platforms are also ideal to get practical insights by initiating a discussion or by contributing to an existing one.
